Chamber Street, Edinburgh
A new Ancient Egypt & East Asia Gallery was to be opened in 2019 in Chamber Street in Edinburgh. I was commissioned to create two new cartouches which would form part of the new ‘hands on’ educational display. They were to be replicas of two existing hieroglyphic panels – a sunken relief of King Ramesses 11 from the Temple of Amun at Tanis and a raised carving of King Thutmose 111. The idea was to use two different materials – red granite & hard French limestone to explain to the visitors in the Gallery the nature of the material, its qualities & the carving techniques used.
